Injuries also sometimes stem from over-use for example; Runners often have pain in their knees after running....Tennis players pain in their elbows after a match.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="line-height: 12.0pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span _mce_style="text-decoration: underline;"&gt;&lt;u&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 8.5pt;"&gt;How to use ice&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 8.5pt;"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="line-height: 12.0pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 8.5pt;"&gt;Ice packs can be made by placing ice cubes or crushed ice in a zip lock type bag, frozen peas, or by using a commercial frozen gel pack. Ice packs should not be placed directly on the skin to avoid frostbite; they should be placed over a wet washcloth or towel and can be held in place by a sterile bandage. Ice packs should be used for 10-15 minutes every hour for 1-2 hours unless otherwise directed by your healthcare professional.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="line-height: 12.0pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span _mce_style="text-decoration: underline;"&gt;&lt;u&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 8.5pt;"&gt;Ice massage&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 8.5pt;"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="line-height: 12.0pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 8.5pt;"&gt;To do ice massage, first freeze water in a paper or Styrofoam cup, then tear away the top lip of the cup, and massage the ice into the injury for 5-10 minutes. Ice massage works very well for the pre-mentioned "over-use" injuries. When ice is first applied you will feel coldness (obviously) then burning, and after several minutes numbness.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="line-height: 12.0pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span _mce_style="text-decoration: underline;"&gt;&lt;u&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 8.5pt;"&gt;Side Effects/ Harmful Effects from Ice Therapy&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 8.5pt;"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="line-height: 12.0pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 8.5pt;"&gt;If ice packs are put directly on the skin and left too long frostbite may occur. The skin and tissue underneath (muscles, nerves and fat) may be injured, either temporarily or permanently. Certain parts of the body (elbow, outside of the knee and the outside of the foot etc.) can be injured by cold therapy more easily because they do not have much padding or insulation.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="line-height: 12.0pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span _mce_style="text-decoration: underline;"&gt;&lt;u&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 8.5pt;"&gt;Heat and Injuries/Sports Injuries&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 8.5pt;"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="line-height: 12.0pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 8.5pt;"&gt;Heat can reduce muscle spasm, improve joint stiffness and make soft tissue more limber. Heat can be used to help loosen tight muscles and joints during a warm up period. It should be used for 10-20 minutes...possibly longer if recommended by your medical professional. Moist heat in the form of towels soaked in hot water or warmed in a microwave are useful, but usually lose their heat rapidly.  &lt;/span&gt;There are things I say on such a regular basis they often come out as a rant. Don’t starve yourself. &lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;No, low fat does not make it good for you.&lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;Running is great. Running is not great for losing weight.&lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;Just because they put it on your plate does not make it a portion. I don’t give a flying fig about the scale. Throw the scale away.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;So you want to lose 5 lbs., who doesn’t? Do you know what 5 lbs. of weight loss will look like on your frame? Oh, you want to lose 20 lbs. O.k. why 20? If you are just picking 20 lbs out of a hat because you think 20 lbs sounds good. We need to talk. What are you really after? You want to feel better about your body. You want to be strong and confident when talking to prospective bosses. You want to feel sexy. &lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;You want to make the ex- who wronged you at prom drop their jaw.&lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;You want to not be out of breath after a flight of stairs. You want to be able to catch your two year old when he goes flying at mach 2 towards the dump truck in the street.&lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;You’d like to stave off nasties like high cholesterol, high blood pressure and ED. You want to lose the muffin top and cankles.&lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;Whatever your reason it is important. &lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;Give rise to the reason. Numbers on a scale are just that… numbers on a scale. Throw the scale away.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;There are some numbers that are very important to your health and wellbeing. Your cholesterol. Total, the good and the bad. Blood pressure. A1C. Resting heart rate. VO2 max. Recovery rate. Your body fat percentage and body mass index. If these numbers are in check I could give a rat’s about the number on the scale. Did you know there is a skinny fat? You could be a scale’s dream. @ 5’9” a buck twenty.&lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;Big deal. If the scale says what you want but some or all of the aforementioned important numbers are out of whack, that scale’s not giving you the whole picture. You are still a ticking time bomb. Throw the scale away.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;Let me tell you of a friend of mine. Actually I have many friends that do this so I know some of you do to. We’ll call y’all Rube. Rube weighs herself every morning. 194 it said yesterday, and Rube was having a grand day. You see it said 196 the day before so Rube is feeling fine. She is sure all that water she has been drinking is paying off. The birds are singing, the sun is shining alright Rube is sticking to her diet today! Girl feels so good she beamed as she put on her face and styled her hair, she put on that new shirt she bought and took the day for a nice walk around the neighborhood sunning her fine self. Rube was at work feeling high and telling her gang how she lost 2 lbs. today. ‘Really it’s just easy’ she said ‘drank all my water yesterday.’ Husband comes home at dinner and Rube’s feeling hot. ‘Don’t I look thinner’ she coos.&lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;He might even get some tonight.&lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;Yesterday was a beautiful day. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;Today my friend is a different story. This morning the scale tips 195. Well poor Rube is just heart broken. Literally. She’s crying first thing. On goes the don’t look at me muumuu, no make-up, no hair. ‘Yesterday I ate so well and it doesn’t even matter’ Rube tells a baker’s dozen. At work she barely leaves her desk. When friends stop by her office to say hello, Rube pretends she buried in paperwork or stuck on a call so she doesn’t have to tell them she gained weight today.&lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;Rube’s husband comes home looking for the glowing bride that met him last night to find his wife buried in tissues and throws with a tub of ice cream and her favorite movie. He winks at her and gets whacked with the empty box of tissues for his trouble. “Don’t look at me” she cries. Poor bloke today is not a good day.&lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;On and on this cycle goes for Rube and her poor mate who could give a rat’s about the number.&lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;Rube’s days are made or broken in that first moment by the scale.&lt;span style="mso-spacerun:yes"&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;Don’t be a Rube. Let me just give a little clarification regarding the word "toning." The word has nothing to do with the size of a particular muscle; it refers rather to making a muscle lean by burning intramuscular fat, and conditioning the muscle for better performance. You can't actually build muscle mass unless you're eating more calories than you're burning, but you can "tone" a muscle to make it leaner. To tone your muscles, you should plan to do weight training four days a week, working each muscle group twice a week, with two days of rest after training a particular muscle group. For example, try: Monday: Chest, shoulders, triceps, quads, upper abs, obliques Tuesday: Back, biceps, hamstrings, glutes, lower abs Wednesday: Rest Thursday: Chest, shoulders, triceps, quads, upper abs, obliques Friday: Back, biceps, hamstrings, glutes, lower abs Saturday: Rest Sunday: Cardio Remember, exercise is the architect, but recovery is the builder. You have to give your body adequate recovery time to heal itself and grow stronger. Doesn't work, does it? Or maybe you can cram your feet in there for one special evening, but you can't wear those pumps all the time, Cinderella.&lt;br /&gt;It's the same deal with the rest of your body. If the diet doesn't fit your body type, you won't see much success.&lt;br /&gt;Ultimately, there are three basic body types. It's important to understand your shape and know what you can and can't expect. Which one best describes you?&lt;br /&gt;The apple shape. Apples tend to store fat in the upper body, and more specifically around the belly. This pattern, unfortunately, can lead to heart disease, so it is extra-important for apples to be health conscious.&lt;br /&gt;The pear shape. Pears hold the majority of their fat in the lower body — hips, buttocks, saddlebags. Pears are mostly women, and this type of fat is not as much of a health risk as belly fat. On the not-so-bright side, it's harder to lose.&lt;br /&gt;The proportioned shape. Lucky proportionate’s have fat cells distributed equally throughout their entire body. When they gain weight, they gain it everywhere. The simple answer is, I don't think they're "nutritious." In fact, there is nothing nutritious about most of them. Usually, they're full of processed carbs and chemicals. They have as many calories as — if not more than — a candy bar. And they're loaded with trans fats and sugar alcohol. Some bars are lower in calories, and some don't have trans fats, but unfortunately this cannot be said for most of them. Honestly, if this is your idea of a snack, you might as well just go have a candy bar and get it out of your system. Yep, it's that troubling. If you really want some nutrition in your snacks, try having a cup of dry whole grain cereal, a piece of fruit, or a few raw or dry-roasted nuts or a couple of cups of air-popped popcorn. Just eat real food. At the end of the day, as long as your snack calories fit into your overall daily allowance, the choice is up to you. There is no right or wrong answer on this, only different choices. Party in the Park atmosphere with food, beverages, and free concert featuring "Elaine &amp;amp; The Biscaynes" at 6:00 pm&lt;br /&gt;This event began with Nancy Horn, a loving wife and mother who lost her 14-month battle with brain cancer in September of 2003. Following the first Run to Remember event, the Horn family and friends invited others to ‘run to remember’ their significant loved one. Today, the event has expanded to celebrate the lives of many cherished individuals as a way to honor their memory while fundraising for the ATPD playground fund. You will travel approximately one mile across the parking lot before heading onto the service roads that wrap around the park. You will complete the rest of the Walk route on the service roads, ending back at the parking lot. Good carbs contain important vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that are essential for good health. Our bodies are genetically designed to consume unrefined carbs such as vegetables and whole grains — these are often referred to as complex carbs because of their molecular structure. Good carbs also tend to take a long time to digest, which creates less of a need for immediate insulin release in the bloodstream, thus stabilizing your blood sugar level. Carbs that are considered "bad" are the ones that get broken down in the body very quickly, triggering insulin release and promoting fat storage. Also known as simple carbs, these carbohydrates come in the form of refined sugars and processed grains. The reason they break down so quickly is that they have undergone chemical procedures during factory processing that are similar to the ones in our digestive system; in effect, they are partially digested when we eat them. Pretty gross, huh? They're found in packaged foods, such as white bread, pasta, crackers, and baked goods and other foods that are made with white flour and contain little or no fiber. Despite the popular misconception, there's no need to worry about complex carbs causing you to gain weight. They won't.
